Ridge Road and Lake Bluff Road, Town of Huron, NY

SRF Associates, now Passero Associates, was hired to assess existing safety conditions at the existing intersection of Ridge Road and Lake Bluff Road. Works tasks included evaluation of existing crash history, performing a Traffic Signal Warrant Study, and providing recommendations for improving safety at the existing intersection. Turning movement counts were performed during peak hour traffic periods. Crash rates were computed for the project intersection and compared with NYSDOT average accident rates for similar intersections. A sight distance analysis and a signal warrant analysis were performed at the study intersection. The study ultimately determined that a change in the type and location of STOP signs and warning signs by the Wayne County Highway Department had already resulted in a decrease in crashes. The study recommended future monitoring of the intersection.
