South 14th & 15th Street Roadway and Drainage Improvements (alleviating stormwater flooding)

Client

City of Palatka

Location

Palatka, FL

Total Cost

$3.2 M

Description

This project involves reconstruction and widening of approximately 5,800 LF of residential roadway including installation of new concrete curb, concrete driveways, concrete sidewalk and parking for adjacent businesses. Also included are storm sewer improvements. One of the project’s main objectives is to alleviate stormwater flooding. The design included a stormwater analysis to assess appropriate solutions to reported flooding occurrences.

A value engineering process was undertaken following opening of bids. This process was particularly challenging, because another City project is occurring at the same time in the same area, requiring an additional layer of coordination. Passero worked with the City, Contractor, funding agency (DEO), and the City’s other design and permitting consultants to successfully bring the proposed project within the limits of the available funds. This process is just now being finalized and construction will begin later this year. Construction phasing is another challenge associated with this project since it takes place within an existing residential neighborhood.
