University of Rochester ER Department Expansion

The University of Rochester (UR) is proposing the expansion of their current Emergency Department (ED) to meet the ever-changing needs of the community, of health care, and of regulations. Several of the main goals of this expansion are to decompress overcrowded conditions, to shorten wait times, and to enlarge the trauma unit in the ED as required for our regional ASC accredited Adult and Peds Trauma Service.
This will be accomplished as follows:

• Demolish an existing 2-story medical center directly adjacent to the current ED; and
• Construct a new ±660,500 square foot ED expansion.

Utility relocation and phasing to maintain redundant utility supply was very challenging for this project, as was the tight project area. Passero also handled the municipal approvals for this high-profile project, one of the largest projects in Monroe County.
