Structural Engineering
The Passero Structural Engineering team serves as trusted advisors to business owners, developers, builders, and other industry design professionals by providing an array of licensed professionals who work tirelessly to provide practical, cost-effective, and creative solutions for a broad spectrum of project types. Our engineers are licensed in over 15 States as Professional Engineers (PE), and Structural Engineers (SE) for those states requiring licensure by discipline. Many of our projects are located in unique regions around the country with locale-specific structural requirements, such as high-wind/hurricane/tornado prone regions, moderate to high seismic regions, snow and ice prone areas, and developments along coastal waterways susceptible to flooding.
New Construction
We serve many different market sectors and are experienced in utilizing all major building materials in accordance with the local building code and other material specific codes. Our engineers utilize the latest in structural design and analysis software and technology to provide accurate and effective designs for unique project needs and challenges. We work in concert with other design professionals to provide a coordinated product. Our team also provides structural observations during construction and assists the owner in overseeing code-required Special Inspections.
Preservation
Many municipalities, businesses, and development projects strive to preserve and utilize existing building inventories across the country, and this often comes with challenges. The International Existing Building Code, with State amendments, requires structural engineering assistance when existing building renovation projects are faced with the following: change of use and/or occupancy, structural alterations (e.g., new openings in walls), building additions (vertical/horizontal), and repairing structures that have either been neglected or not maintained, or structures that have been damaged due to misuse or natural hazards.
Our team is experienced with and knowledgeable of many different types of historic structures, antiquated structural systems, and construction methods, some no longer used in modern construction. We utilize a library of historical texts, codes, and reference manuals in gaining context and understanding of each historic structure. We bring in testing and other specialists when project needs arise in order to accurately and effectively assess, repair and preserve historic structures.
Repair and Rehabilitation
Even the most well-maintained or well-designed building structures need eventual repair and rehabilitation. Age, weather, use, and the environment all play a role in how often a building structure will require repairs or need rehabilitation. Our experts provide onsite visual assessments and examinations of buildings and other structures whether for project feasibility or to repair and rehabilitate. We work with builders and other construction professionals to provide solutions that often involve locations with structures that are difficult to access or that require temporary shoring and cribbing of critical structural elements.
