               TW O (2) GRIDS

                1st Grid

                       - Existing residential streets

                       - State route 266

                2nd Grid

                       - Existing Industrial Buildings

                       - River

                “Switch” 266

                       - Existing rail begins on the 1st Grid but eventually

bends to enter the northmost industrial building where

it conforms to the 2nd grid.

                       - When overlaid with

                       the canal, this creates

                       a “switch” when viewed
                       from above.

                       - Typically used to switch

a rail cars from one track
                       to the other (right)....here

                       it switches the site from

                       one grid to the other.

                Why?

                       - Allows the focus of the site to be the reclaimed in-
dustrial buildings while still strongly connecting to the

                       existing residential area

                       - Direct views through the site and to the River from
the main Northern access and the existing residential

streets AND direct views through the industrial build-

                       ings to the river
