     William T. Sampson
     -This property was named after William Thomas Sampson
     (1840–1902) who was a United States Navy admiral who
     became known for his victory in the Battle of Santiago de
     Cuba during the Spanish–American War.

     -The United States Naval Training Station (USNTS Samp-
     son) was established by the Navy in 1942 .
     -2,600 Acres
        -Previously vinyards and farmland
            -Before that it was home to the villages of Seneca
            Indians
     -270 days to complete construction
     -$50,000,000 - Cost to build
     -35,000 persons - Capacity
     -Designed by NYC architects Shreve, Lamb, & Harmon
        -Same architects that designed the Empire State                                        Large Assembly in Drill Field
        Building
     -394 Buildings
        -Barracks, drill halls, mess halls, auditorium, admin.
        bldgs., chapels, ship stores, laundry, bakery, etc.
     -50 Miles of power lines (power from Dresdon acoss lake)
     -30 Miles of sewage (plant to the south of site)
     -Water: pumped from lake, treated, and distributed to                                                    Barracks
     every building (5,000,000 Gallons/day)
     -Mission: Naval basic training for large numbers of new
     recruits to help in the US WWII efforts
